Stan Lee pioneered what became known as the "Marvel Method" of creating comics. Rather than writing a full script that an artist then illustrates, Lee would give artists a brief plot outline — sometimes just a few sentences — and the artist would draw the entire issue based on that outline. Lee would then write the dialogue and captions after seeing the finished art. This method gave artists enormous creative freedom and allowed Marvel to produce comics at extraordinary speed during the 1960s. Jack Kirby in particular thrived under this approach, effectively co-plotting every issue he drew. The Marvel Method remains influential and variations of it are still used today.
